Stuart Agnew MEP is to be the keynote speaker at a public meeting on farming to be held at the Heritage Centre in Bell Street on Friday 7th March at 7.30pm. He will be sharing the platform with former UKIP press officer and prospective European Parliamentary candidate Gawain Towler, and also Steve Unwin the local Prospective Westminster Parliamentary Candidate.
Mr Agnew farms in Norfolk and is the UK Independence Party’s agriculture spokesman. He is a member of the European Parliament’s Agriculture & Rural Affairs Committee. As Dorset has an important agricultural community which is subject to the laws and directives emanating from the European Parliament in Brussels and Strasbourg, his input will be particularly relevant. Mr Agnew, who is an NFU member and also sits on the Fisheries Committee in the European Parliament said: “It is important for everyone to understand that EU laws are originated by the unelected European Commission and then haggled over by MEPs, who can make amendments but only by consensus. I am also keen to emphasise UKIP’s common sense policies for agriculture.”
Gawain Towler was formerly a press officer for UKIP and now fulfils that role for the Europe of Freedom and Democracy Group (EFD), of which UKIP is a member in the EP. Having lived in Dorset for much of his life, Mr Towler is now standing as an MEP candidate in the South West and is third on the UKIP list. He will illustrate how strongly EU law impacts on the everyday lives of Dorset residents.
This will be the first public meeting Steve Unwin will be addressing as UKIP’s Prospective Westminster Parliamentary Candidate for the North Dorset constituency. A Shaftesbury book dealer with much behind the scenes political experience under his belt, he will be talking about the importance of helping in UKIP’s campaign to get its MEPs elected and similarly the first UKIP MPs into Westminster.
The meeting is at Shaftesbury’s Heritage Centre in Bell Street on Friday 7th March at 7 for 7.30pm. A pay-bar will be available. With UKIP being the rising star in UK politics it certain that what these knowledgeable speakers will say will be of great interest to the people of North Dorset.
Should further information be required please contact either John Baxter, the North Dorset UKIP Chairman, or Gawain Towler on 0787 933 9509.
