Dorset North Branch Information

The Dorset North Association represents the Westminster Parliamentary constituency and extends to approximately 1,000 square miles. Mostly a rural county our major towns include Gillingham, Sturminster Newton, Blandford Forum and Shaftesbury.

Recently boundary changes have taken Wimborne Minster and Colehill into neighbouring North Poole and Mid Dorset, Stapehill and Longham into Christchurch, although we have gained Verwood and Three Legged Cross from the Christchurch Constituency.

The Association has a small committee. John Baxter takes care of the day to day running under the all consuming title of Chairman. Charles Upton looks after the accounts. John’s son David looks after all things technical and IT related, and Betty Dandridge provides helpful advice and support.

We hold regular informal monthly meetings usually on the first Thursday of each month in the very suitable and congenial surroundings of the Charlton Inn in Charlton Marshall, a venue also selected for being in the virtual centre of our wide spread constituency. This is also attended by members of adjoining branches, something which stops us becoming stale and insular. Usually available on these evenings are a small quantity of UKIP merchandise, such as window stickers, caps, badges, key rings, coffee mugs and many more items, along with more than 40 books with political themes that can be borrowed at nominal cost. A list of those books is available.

We produce a monthly newsletter which as well as giving contact information, local events listings, reports of happenings locally and in our ‘region’ (our apologies for having to use that word!), it attempts to explain the implications of some of the awful legislation that is churned out by the unelected bureaucrats of the EU in Brussels & Strasburg. All back issues of our newsletters ever produced are available for download.

Once a year in the spring we hold an Annual General Meeting to vote for a committee and cover any essential business. To avoid this being too boring and dull we have an interesting UKIP speaker, a well stocked raffle, and UKIP merchandise is available to buy. Usually we have some sort of display, and the whole is finished off by copious refreshments including homemade produce, all in the comfortable surroundings of Pimperne Village Hall, which has delightful rural aspects that can be enjoyed if the aural onslaught gets too heavy!
At various other times of year we hold fundraising events and have as much fun as possible!

Please now take time to explore our website and perhaps some of the other UKIP ones available via the links on this site. We hope you find the content both interesting and informative. We would also appreciate your feedback.
